Message from the Maestro
I hope you will be joining us for our season finale on June 11 featuring works by Strauss, Britten, and Liszt. Thanatology explores our views on death and the afterlife. Music can serve to accompany ceremony in Britten’s Sinfonia da Requiem, as a macabre fantasy in Liszt’ Totentanz, and as an ecstatic experience in Strauss’ Death and Transfiguration.
I was able to chat with our guest pianist, Yerin Kim, about moving to Washington, the theme of death in Liszt' Totentanz, creating professional recordings, and community involvement and social change.
