Dear Members and Friends

Hello, and welcome to the second issue of LUCO Continuo!

During the summer months, my family and I escaped our home to pursue outdoor activities. Now, in the winter season, we're finding indoor pursuits to fill the off-hours - books, music, treadmill, yoga, and more. In this issue I share my recommendations for reading and listening. Here are a few works that I have found thought-provoking and inspiring (and humorous):

Books:
  • To Forgive Design (Henry Petroski)
  • The Prodigal Tongue (Lynne Murphy)
  • Atomic Habits (James Clear)
  • Anatomy of the Orchestra (Norman del Mar)
  • Between the World and Me (Ta-Nehisi Coates)
  • The Secret Life of Musical Notation (Roberto Poli)

Music
  • Britten: Violin Concerto (Janine Jansen, Berlin Philharmonic)
  • Thomas Ades: Suite from Powder Her Face (Frankfurt Radio Symphony)
  • Lera Auerbach: Icarus (National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain)
  • Esa-Pekka Salonen: Nyx (Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra)
  • Michael Torke: Strawberry Fields (Albany Symphony Orchestra)
  • John Adams: I Still Play (Timo Andres, piano)

Happy listening and reading!
